Congratulations to the
Chabad Shluggers for going all the way to the championship game!!
Shluggers await word on playoffs.
After winning 3 straight games, the Shluggers lost a tough one on Wednesday
night going 1-1 for the week with a 7-0 shutout on Monday. Mondays game
Vs Beth El of Sudbury was as good a game anyone played this season both
offensively & defensively. With all around brilliant fielding efforts
from all Shluggers & everyone hitting. Special mention goes to Adam,
Yitz & the Rabbi in the field & just about everyone at the plate.
After several times pushing off the game Vs Temple Israel of Natick,
we finally got the game off on Wednesday night, with the clouds threatening
& Pedro stinking at Fenway. We started off with a double by the
leadoff hitter (Rabbi) who got on 5 times going 2-2 with 3 walks. The
inning looked like we were heading straight for our 4th consecutive
win as we scored 4 first inning runs. Temple Israel starting chipping
though and eventually grabbed the lead while cranking 2 three run homers
one off the starter Brownie & one off relief pitcher Leib. While
we had a good defensive effort all around, there were too many gappers
in the outfield and all the batters we walked ending up scoring. Special
mention goes to Jay Low, Yitz, Yaakov & Brownie in the outfield
for each making nice catches and the Rabbi for a few nifty plays at
short.
Playoff scenarios:
1) If Temple Emunah does not play their last game, we are in.
2) If Temple Emunah plays their last game and loses, we are in.
3) If Temple Emunah plays their last game & wins we would be out
of the playoffs, unless..
4) We can get Ohr Atid to play us our last game & we win.
5) The commissioners award us a point since Ohr Atid is being unreasonable
by not setting up a game with us.

Shluggers continue surge as they move up to 5-3
For the second consecutive game, the Shluggers played
without coach Brownie who is on the DL, but you would not know that
watching the game, as the cohesiveness the game was played with. Once
again, as has been the case of late, there was a well pitched game by
Leib, who also helped his own cause with 3 hits, including a triple.
The Shluggers, gave up 2 runs in the first inning, but came right back
to take the lead and never looked back. The game was won with stellar
defense. Perry played a great game at third & in general, the first
basemen (David & Josh B.) were kept busy all day. Other than Beth
Shalom's 3 run homer in the 6th inning, it was all Shluggers, all day.
The Shluggers are now tied for the last playoff spot.
Upcoming games are: June 25 there are major Playoff implications!! We
need this game in a really bad way!!! Come out and cheer us on while
we go visit Temple Ohr Atid, Wayland for game 9 at their home field,
Claypit Hill School in Wayland @ 10:00 AM. Followed by June 26th for
game # 10 vs Temple Beth El Sudbury on our home field on June 26 at
6:00 PM. Please e mail Steve, thesportswriter30@yahoo.com for more info.

Shluggers have best outing of the
season as they go to 4-3
A short handed squad of Shluggers jumped out to an early lead and never
looked back as they trounced Beth El of Sudbury 20-10 on Sunday, June
11.
As has been the case of late, there was a well pitched game by Leib,
who also helped his own cause with 3 hits, including a triple. Newly
activated off the DL Ishay wasted no time getting back into "Ichiro
mode" as he picked up 4 clean singles. The Rabbi turned a routine
fly ball to right field into a homerun (with an error). Newly acquired
Yakov has numerous catches in right center and 3 good hits, he also
had an improbable assist when he gunned down a runner trying to stretch
a double into a triple. Carl & Judah each win the bomb award for
hitting the ball a mile deep and getting doubles. Other than that, each
Shlugger did his job by playing stellar defense, David did quite a few
stretches playing a Hasek/Broduer type first base, keeping everyone
away from errors.
Next game up is on June 18 there are major Playoff implications!! We
need this game in a really bad way!!! Come out and cheer us on while
we go visit Beth Shalom, Framingham for game 8 at their home field,
George P. King Building in Framingham @ 10:00 am. Please e mail Steve,

Wellesley-Weston Chabad Shluggers
improve to 3-2
The Wellesley-Weston Chabad Shluggers improve their record to 3-2 after
soundly defeating cross town rival, Beth Elokim last Sunday at Sprague
Field by a score of 20-14.
The Shluggers looked impressive throughout the contest
as took the lead early and never had to look back.
Brownie, who started in left field again, got things going
in the second with a 2 run RBI triple. Followed by an impressive performances
put on by Big Red, David, Perry and the Rabbi.
Leib "The Rifleman" Shaffer" was not only
impressive on the mound again, but he lived up to the team name as he
nearly knocked the stitching off the ball several in-route to his multiple
base hits.
This week's Golden Glove Award goes out to Steve Black
who made an unbelievable diving catch in center field to end a fourth
inning threat.
However, as impressive as that never to be duplicated
again catch was, most distinguishable honor goes out to Big Red as he
made two fantastic catches in left/center field.
A post game interview revealed that David has been working
with Big Red, helping his young protege harness his raw skills.
Next up for the Shluggers: Come out and cheer us on while
we host Temple Emunah on May 29th for game 6 at our home field, Sprague
field in Wellesley @ 10:00 am. Please e mail Steve, thesportswriter30@yahoo.com

Also, on May 30, we will have the first in a set of 3
(non league) games Vs the Shechter school in Newton. Come out and cheer

Shluggers drop to 2-2
The Shluggers suffer their second loss of the season in disappointing
fashion as they blew a seven run lead late in the game and lost to Team
Mishkan 19-18.
Offense wasn't an issue for the Chabad Homeboys as they lit up the scoreboard
early and often, scoring 2 runs in the second, 8 in the third, 1 in
the fourth, 4 in the fifth and 3 in the sixth inning.
What was at issue was the team's defense. With a slopping and expansive
outfield to contend with Shluggers players had a fair amount of difficulty
fielding what would have otherwise been routine pop flies. Instead they
were busy chasing down base-clearing dingers that were running up the
hills in all different directions.
Overthrows and the absence of discipline to limit errors were also an
issue for the team, as was poor officiating.
Leib "The Rifleman" Shaffer was doing a masterful job on the
mound, pitching in place of Brownie, until he was inexplicably pulled
after the third inning to cover center field. He was later reinstalled
back on the mound in an effort to help the team regain control of the
game which by then was quickly slipping away from them.
Brownie, who started the game in the outfield in absence of the team's
regular center fielder, took the mound for the fourth, fifth and sixth
inning, but had tremendous difficulty locating his pitches and thus
dispatched Leib back to the mound for the salvage.
Several batting awards could be handed out for the game, beginning with
Black (4-5), Lowenthal (3-5 with one homerun) and Yitz (3-5), but sadly
this week's Golden Glove award will remain on the shelf.
Shluggers will be taking on Schechter in a best of three non-league
series beginning this Thursday, May 11, 2006, at 6:30pm.
April 30, 2006
The World Famous Wellesley Weston Chabad Shluggers resumed
their winning ways this past Sunday as they beat neighboring Shir Tikvah
33-10 in front of large fan Shlugger base. The game was cut short by
an inning as the umpire imposed a seldom used "slaughter rule"
in the 7th.
The Shluggers are now 2-1 on the season.
Throughout the game the Shluggers bats were explosive having scored
5 runs in both the 1st and 2nd inning, 3 in the 3rd, 11 in the 4th and
9 in the 6th.
Dovid "Pops/Zaidy" K. remained the teams most consistent player
having done considerable damage to the opposition with a battery of
RBI doubles and singles.
The Rabbi also cranked it up at the plate having gone a legitimate 6
for 6, including one triple and a HR.
Honorable mention goes out to both Yitz Ortiz and Perry Ramirez for
their back to back home runs in the 6th and to fans from NJ who came
out to cheer the team on.
Brownie suffered a hyper extended pull in his left thigh yesterday while
crossing home plate for the third time during the game and he also suffered
a pair of bruised knuckles in his pitching hand as he heroically tried
to field a screaming line drive with his bare hand.
Our next game coming up is on the road at Mishkan Tefillah. It promises
to be lots of fun. Please come on out and cheer us on as we visit M.T
Ward School in Newton @ 10:00 am. We would love to see you there! Please

Shluggers fall to 1-1
The World Famous Wellesley Weston Chabad Shluggers took one on the chin
yesterday morning at Sprague field as their opponent, Temple Isaiah
(1) of Lexington got off to an early 8-1 lead and never looked back,
despite the strong pitching performance of Stephen Brown.
Defense was to blame in the Shluggers attempts to stifle Isaiah's battery
of short pops flys which were occasionally mixed in with some dingers
to center and left. That couple with the Shluggers stranding numerous
players on bases all contributed to an unnecessary 19-11 loss.
Offensive player(s) of the game goes out to Dovid and Carl who tried
to get things going in different innings with their explosive bats.
The Golden Glove will remain on the shelf this week as there were really
no Defensive players of the game. Honorable mention, however, goes out
to J Low who caught an over-the-shoulder pop fly in the third. <golf
clap>
Both The Rabbi and Chris win the Planes, Trains and Automobile award
-- which is really a meaningless award since none of these modes of
transportation were able to get them to the game on time.
Shluggers take opener vs cross
town rivals!!
The Chabad Shluggers came out victorious in their season opener against
Beth Elohim, beating their cross town rival 8-5.
Despite the close score, the Shluggers dominated their opponent throughout
the game with sound fundamental softball. But where the team really
shined was outfield, lead by the outstanding golden glove performance
of Chris O, Steve B., Yitz K and Adam L.
At the plate, returning veteran Shlugger Jason Lowenthal and rookie
Dovid Kashnow got things going on offense. Lowenthal hit the game's
only home run while Dovid hit a screamer to deep outfield for what can
be best described as one of the most impressive doubles ever hit in
the MSSL.
While the Shluggers took an early lead and never looked back, it got
a little dicey for the team in the fourth as Beth Elohim managed to
score 4 runs in the fourth, but the Shluggers regrouped themselves and
quickly killed their opponent's rally. The only additional Beth Elohim
run came in the 7th inning on tag up.
Next up for the Shluggers are Temple Isaiah of Lexington. The game will
be at 10:00 AM on April 23d at our home field. Please come and enjoy
the event.

Chabad Shluggers Win Again
By Jason Bedrick:
(June 20th) On Sunday, Wellesley's Chabad Shluggers (4-4)
smoked the Red Lox of Lexington's Temple Isaiah (4-4) by a margin of 23-9.
Shlugger Adam Pokey Levine completed a cycle (a single,
a double, a triple, and a home run) while team captain, Rabbi Moshe Bleich,
was just a single short of completing his own cycle. In the third inning,
outfielder Ishay Grinberg hit his first homerun of the season and the
Shluggers cycled through the entire batting order. Throughout the game,
outfielder Chris Menachem Mendel O'Brien successfully fielded numerous
seemingly-impossible-to-catch line drives.
The Shluggers were one of the original eight teams in the
Men's Shul (Synagogue) Softball League which is comprised of Jewish men
in the Greater Boston region. There are currently 18 teams. The Shluggers
have a revamped team this year with new players filling almost half of
the positions and they're looking forward to a successful season. This
coming Sunday, the Shluggers will face off against first place Temple
Beth El North at the Cabot School in Newtonville. A win would guarantee
a playoff berth for the Shluggers.

Chabad Shluggers Win Again by Jason Bedrick
On Sunday, Wellesley's Chabad Shluggers came out
of their two-game funk by winning their third game of the season in a
17-7 blowout against Lexington's Temple Emunah. Three weeks ago, the Shluggers
beat Wayland's Temple Or Atid by the same margin.
Due to heavy rains over the weekend which left
the infield a veritable mud pit, the Shluggers were forced to play on
a makeshift field on the outfield grass. Team captain, Rabbi Moshe Bleich
opened the game strong with a triple and then proceeded to earn four hits
in four at-bats. The game's MVP was Yitz Kashnow, who hit the game's only
out-of-the-park home run and made several outstanding plays.

Mishkan Tefillah. Please come out to Sudbury & show your support as
the Shluggers look to bounce back to their winning ways. Please click

Chabad Shluggers Win Again: by Jason Bedrick
On Sunday, Wellesley's Chabad Shluggers won their second game of the
season in a 17-7 blowout against Weyland's Temple Or Atid. In their
first game, the Shluggers trounced Temple Sholom of Framingham 20-4.
The Shluggers hit three homeruns including one by Carl Blanchard, a
three-run crusher to deep left field by Yitz Kashnow, and another by
the shortstop and team captain, Rabbi Moshe Bleich, who also started
two nifty double-plays. With a single, triple, and homerun, Bleich was
just a double short of a cycle. The offense was spread evenly with six
batters getting on base at least three out of four times. Pitcher Matt
Oliver had seven strong innings.
